The Hainesport fire is the second to have erupted Monday, the first being the Country Club Wildfire in Lakewood (click here for details on that forest fire).
Crews had achieved 20% containment of the fire, which was burning near Bancroft Lane, Cove Court, and Wharton Place. Earlier concerns about 20 threatened structures have been alleviated, with no evacuations reported and no structures currently at risk.
Road closures remain in effect on Bancroft Lane, Cove Court, and Wharton Place, as fire engines and ground crews continue working to contain the blaze. The cause of the wildfire is under investigation.
The fires come as the U.S. National Weather Service issued a Special Weather Statement warning of an elevated wildfire risk across parts of New Jersey.
"Northwest winds of 10 to 15 mph, with gusts up to 20 to 30 mph this afternoon, and minimum relative humidity values of 35 to 40 percent, are creating conditions conducive to wildfire spread," the statement reads.
In response, Stage 3 Fire Restrictions are in effect statewide:
The New Jersey Forest Fire Service has classified the current fire danger level as elevated, and residents are urged to exercise extreme caution to prevent additional wildfires.
Both the Hainesport and Lakewood fires remain under investigation, with no causes yet determined.
